Cologne was founded in the year 38 BC by the Roman Empire. Today it is considered as the fourth largest city of Germany following Munich, Hamburg and Berlin. The city is very much vibrant in nature and culture. Inside Germany, Cologne is considered to be the hub of telecommunication and media industry. Number of radio stations originate from Cologne and are spread in all of Germany. Along with Radio stations many of Televisions shows are not even made in Cologne but also are broadcasted from here. Cologne has many headquarters of different TV channels and radio stations such as VOX. Above all of this, Cologne is famous for the “Cologne Comedy Festival” which is regarded as the biggest comedy festival not only in Germany but also in all of Europe.
The climatic conditions inside Cologne are just like the weather is expected according to the season. The coldest months of the year are December, January and February and the temperature varies above and lowers 0 degrees. In summer the temperature rises up a little. The hottest months of the year are June, July, and August. Summertime is not humid due to the strong amount of rainfall Cologne receives, which help the climate to be on the cooler side.
Economically Cologne is not that as strong as the other major cities of Germany but still contributes a lot. Many International Organizations have their head offices in Cologne, which includes FORD also. Cologne mostly generates its revenue from services industry.
Culturally Cologne is strong city. There are lot of museums, parks and many other places where the people of Cologne like to spend their free time. Among these museums the most famous one in the city is named as “Romano Germanic Museum”. The museum basically displays the pictures from the past in fields of art and architecture. Also there are many orchestras working in Cologne, classical music is very popular here. There are many galleries to visit whilst you are there.
During World War II the Cologne city was completely destroyed and after the war the German people starting constructing the city again. The government decided to reconstruct the city in a style which should look as the modern city of that age but also architecture that represents the past. So now Cologne itself is a mixture of new and modern age development styles with a touch of historic architecture of buildings.
Cologne is located on the coast of River Rhine; this brings risks of floods to the city. In the past Cologne also has suffered and has recovered from some major floods. Now the German government is taking precautionary measures with the help of technology available to control or to reduce the amount of damages which Cologne faces from floods.
Cologne has the world famous stadium of football named as “RheinEnergieStadion”. The stadium also hosted the some matches of 2006 World Cup. It is the home ground of local Cologne football team which competes in the German Bundesliga. The club is called “FC Köln”.
