Does Anti Aging Makeup Work?

Anti aging makeup is now at the heart of the new wave in cosmetic products. From anti aging and anti wrinkle face creams, cosmetic companies started making other products like anti aging foundation color, then lipstick and even eye shadow. Are these products really worth the extra money that you are being asked to pay? How do they actually work?

When you are considering anti aging cosmetics or other makeup products you have to remember that their claims do not have to be approved by the FDA. This is because they are being sold for cosmetic and not medical purposes, as such, are not classed as drugs. This means that there are no precise limits on what they may claim other than the general laws on advertising. The FDA will not check that any claims made while advertising the products are true.

However, if a product claims that it contains a certain ingredient such as vitamin E or Retinol which help reduce the signs of skin aging, then legally it must in fact contain that ingredient. But, the producer does not have to say what quantity. So it could be a tiny amount that would have very little effect.

In general, ingredients which are used in making moisturizing creams to reduce wrinkles and other signs of aging are substances which are best applied in a greasy base. These often work very well in moisturizers and you would most likely notice the difference when you stop using your moisturizer for a while. But, they do not necessarily go so well in makeup. Using makeup regularly can have a drying effect on your skin and perhaps anti aging cosmetics will avoid that, but you might not even notice the difference.

Even though it is possible that anti aging makeup may work, we are doubtful. So anti aging foundation could be a better choice than your regular foundation...maybe. However, it should not take the place of a moisturizer in your daily skin care routine. If you stop using your regular daytime moisturizer thinking that your foundation will do the same job, you may most likely be disappointed with the results. So you need to keep hydrating your skin with a good moisturizer for best results.

Therefore if you want to use makeup to reduce the signs of aging, your best bet will probably be to spend your money on updating your complete selection of cosmetics instead of choosing anti aging products. Throw out any colors that you have been using since the last century and find out what is popular in the market now. Also, it is worth spending some time learning how to apply cosmetics effectively to give you a younger look. Using your blusher in certain ways on the cheekbones can be almost as effective as a face lift. This could be more effective than anti aging makeup.

One last piece of advice is avoid drinks of coffee during the day if you can. Coffee contains caffeine which is a diuretic and therefore can dry out the skin
