Hauntings are frequently thought of and analyzed by hundreds of people. Many people may even visit the haunted site in order to hopefully see or feel what many people have rumored.

The most common and thought of type of haunting was the intelligent or traditional haunting. Most people think of this when the word ghost is said. These are the most commonly thought of but the least commonly occurring and are rare. The ghost is in some way connected to the people or the site that it is haunting. These reasons may include but arent limited to unfinished business, a sudden death that the spirit was not able to realize occurred, the loved ones in the home are unable to let go of the spirit, an injustice has been done to them, or they may have a fear of the judgment on the other side of life.

The presence of these ghosts is generally shown by some type of a physical activity. These can be doors that are closed and opened randomly or locked and unlocked. Another that is silent may be a smell, presence, or even a touch that is felt by people at the site. Most people expect to see a mist or a apparition when they hear the word ghost but this is the most rare form of ghosts that appear.

Another type of haunting that occurs is a residual haunting. These are occurrences or possible traumatic actions which have been in the past but leave something in the environment. The residual haunting is the most commonly occurring but also mistaken as the traditional haunting. The difference between the two is that there is no ghost involved here or any interactions with living people. This shows itself in the form of footsteps, sounds, scents, or even images as well. The theory behind the haunting is that it is energy stored in the site. It places itself in the magnetic fields in the environment. The energy builds up so much that it has to release itself and then it is done all over again in a cycle. Some people have also theorized that the energy is from light particles which dont move until they get stimulation from somewhere.

The third type of haunting is a portal haunting. They are not really explained or known and most information that we have about them is purely speculated or theorized. This leaves any information about them to be rather controversial. A portal is simply a doorway to another world or even a dimension. Some people do believe that portals are not locked or tied to only one location or area and can be linked to many different ones. Portals are generally seen as places that have strange shapes, odd creatures, or glowing balls of lights along with fog or mists. The portal is believed to be how energy moves back and forth between the two realms or areas.

Hauntings are always going to be questioned because they cannot be proven and any information is often hard to replicate.
